Concert season 2009

The 2009 Concert Season

The concert season begins at Bertramka on April, 11th and concludes with a concert on October, 31st. Just as in past years, many of Mozart’s pieces will be performed here, as well as pieces by his contemporaries and pieces by modern composers. The majority of the concerts will take place in Bertramka’s concert hall, though during the summer months (July and August) selected concerts will be held in the picturesque setting of the garden.

In the season 2009 we will follow in the tradition of concerts presented by leading Czech string quartets, which performed in the last two years in the projects “Mozart meets Beethoven at Bertramka” and “Quartets of the Two Centuries 1750 - 1950”.
By the cycle Music Anniversary Year 2009 we will celebrate important anniversaries of four great music composers. World public commemorates 250th anniversary of the death of G. F. Händel, 200th anniversary of death of J. Haydn, 200th anniversary of birth of F. Mendelssohn-Bartholdy. Especially Czech, but sure also world audience will commemorate 50 years, which passed from death of Czech music genius B. Martinů. This interesting concert project will be in progress during the whole concert season.
The majority of concerts we will devote to celebrate Joseph Haydn. Mozart and Haydn were friends and also their work didn’t stay without reciprocal effect. In the concert project we have both important works of Haydn, and also six of Mozart’s so-called „Hayden quartets“ from years 1782 – 1785, which were inspired by Haydn’s „Russian“ quartets Op. 33. The project also features such leading Czech string quartets as the Talich, Schulhoff, Kocian, Herold, and Zemlinský and also Bennewitz quartet, which was in year 2008 awarded on a prestigious string quartets competition in Italy. The majority of these concerts will be in program completed with works of Felix Mendelssohn-Barthodly.

Concerts of the project Music Anniversary Year 2009: M + M are devoted to Czech composer Bohuslav Martinů. Bertramka is traditionally connected with more classical music, but it is sure the place, where modern classical music takes place including premiers of pieces of contemporary authors. The invitation to Bertamka accepts for example violin virtuoso Ivan Ženatý. Classical and modern repertoire will be performed also by young artists, for example cellist Petr Nouzovský, who will be accompanied on the piano by Jan Čech.

This September, the Museum of W. A. Mozart and the Dušeks at Bertramka will be host to the 11th Annual Mozartiana Iuventus music festival. This concert cycle, whose programming includes music by contemporary composers, is a traditional opportunity for extraordinary young talents to perform for Czech and international audiences. Each program on the festival contains a work by W. A. Mozart, creating a fascinating confrontation between Mozart’s pieces and contemporary pieces by composers who were inspired by the spirit of Classicism as they wrote. Young artists welcome this chance to present themselves every year, just as the festival organizers are pleased to present the winners of many competitions (for example Bennewitz quartet).
